Requirements: iOS 26.2 or later on iPhone; macOS 26.2 or later on Mac. AI summaries additionally need an Apple Intelligence–capable device (see the FAQ below).

iPhone: Download DRFT from the App Store. On first launch, enter your name — it seeds your first wake words, which you can edit or replace — and grant Microphone + Speech Recognition permission. Tap Start to begin a listening session. DRFT keeps listening in the background and pings you when it hears one of your words.

Mac: Download DRFT from the Mac App Store. Grant System Audio Recording permission when prompted. DRFT lives in your menu bar — click the icon, pick an audio source, and start a session to monitor Zoom, Teams, Meet, Slack, Discord, or any app playing sound.

3. Permissions DRFT needs

• Microphone (iPhone) — Required. DRFT captures ambient audio in real time for on-device wake word detection. Audio is never recorded or stored.
• Speech Recognition (iPhone and Mac) — Required. Apple's on-device framework transcribes audio locally on your device. No audio leaves the device.
• System Audio Recording (Mac) — Required for the Mac app to capture audio from other apps. Grant it through System Settings → Privacy & Security → System Audio Recording. DRFT uses Core Audio process taps: it never records your screen and the Mac app holds no microphone entitlement.
• Notifications — Optional. Lets DRFT alert you when the app is in the background; detection alerts are marked time-sensitive so they can break through Focus. If you decline, DRFT still saves every detection to History.

How does DRFT detect my name?

On iPhone, DRFT listens through your microphone. On Mac, DRFT captures audio directly from apps like Zoom, Teams, and Meet. Both use Apple's on-device speech recognition to spot your words in real time — then send you an instant notification.

Does DRFT work in the background?

Yes. On iPhone, DRFT uses background audio mode to keep listening even when the app isn't in the foreground or your screen is locked. On Mac, DRFT runs as a menu bar app — no window needed. Just start a session and forget about it.

Is DRFT free?

Yes. DRFT is free on iPhone and Mac, with no ads on any platform or tier. The free version gives you 3 wake words and 10 saved moments — onboarding seeds the first words from your name, and you can edit or replace any of them. DRFT+ unlocks unlimited wake words, unlimited saved moments, unlimited wake-word profiles, on-device AI summaries, and iCloud sync across your devices. DRFT+ is a one-time purchase — no subscription; the current price is shown in the app and on the App Store.

Is my audio — or my transcript — sent to the cloud?

No. Speech recognition runs entirely on your device using Apple's framework, and audio is never recorded or stored. AI summaries also run entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence, so no transcript text is sent anywhere either. The current app makes no network requests of its own: it talks to Apple's iCloud and App Store services, and opens links you tap.

One exception: App Store builds older than 2.0 used a cloud summary path (a Cloudflare Worker forwarding text to OpenAI). That service was shut down on 2026-09-06, so those builds no longer get summaries at all; updating to the current version brings them back, on-device. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

What do I need for AI summaries?

DRFT+, plus an Apple Intelligence–capable device with Apple Intelligence turned on — iPhone 15 Pro and later, or an Apple silicon Mac. If your device can't run it, DRFT tells you that instead of selling you something; if Apple Intelligence is switched off or the model is still downloading, DRFT says so and fills the summary in once it's ready.

How many wake words can I have?

3 on Free, unlimited on DRFT+. Wake words are one pool — there are no locked-in "default" words. The name you enter during onboarding just seeds your first words, and every word after that is editable and deletable. Keeping zero words is a valid state. DRFT+ also adds unlimited wake-word profiles, so you can keep separate sets for work, class, and personal and switch between them; a new profile starts empty. Apple's speech recognizer accepts a limited number of vocabulary hints, so with a very long list the first words you added get the strongest spelling boost; every word is still detected.

What happens when I hit my saved-moment limit?

On Free, DRFT keeps the 10 most recent moments and drops the oldest. DRFT+ has no cap: every moment stays until you delete it. Nothing stops being detected; only the oldest Free-tier entries roll off.

What language does DRFT work in?

The app interface and AI summaries are available in 16 languages: English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Wake word detection is broader — it works in whatever languages Apple's on-device Speech framework supports on your device, which is more than those 16.

What apps does DRFT work with on Mac?

DRFT on Mac works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, FaceTime, Discord, Slack huddles, and any app that plays audio through your Mac — including browsers like Chrome, Safari, Arc, Edge, Brave, Opera, and Firefox.

How do iPhone and Mac work together?

With DRFT+, both apps sync your wake words, profiles, and saved moments through your private iCloud database, so a moment saved on one device shows up on the other. Sync turns itself on when you own DRFT+ and your device is signed into iCloud — there's no switch to flip. Each device alerts you locally: DRFT does not relay notifications between your Mac and iPhone. No pairing or setup required, just the same Apple Account.

How is DRFT different from meeting transcription apps?

Transcription apps record everything. DRFT doesn't — it only saves something when it hears one of your specific words. No recordings, no transcript of the whole meeting. Just a ping, the short window of speech around your word, and an on-device summary of it.

5. Troubleshooting

DRFT isn't detecting my words

Make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition are enabled in Settings → Privacy & Security. Check that the word you expect is in the active wake-word profile. Try saying the word more clearly and at speaking volume. The phone should be within a few feet of the speaker — if you're on speakerphone, place the device closer to it.

I'm not getting notifications

Enable notifications for DRFT in Settings → Notifications → DRFT, or tap the NOTIFICATIONS row in DRFT's own Settings to jump straight there. If notifications stay off, DRFT still saves every detection to History.

Mac isn't capturing audio

Grant System Audio Recording permission to DRFT in System Settings → Privacy & Security → System Audio Recording, then restart DRFT for the change to take effect. Make sure the app you want to monitor is actually playing audio when you start the session.

Summaries aren't appearing

Summaries need DRFT+ and Apple Intelligence. Confirm Apple Intelligence is turned on in your system settings and that the on-device model has finished downloading — DRFT shows which of these is the holdup on the summary card, and backfills the summary once it's available. On devices that can't run Apple Intelligence, summaries are unavailable; detections and transcripts still work.

My DRFT+ purchase isn't unlocking

Open Settings (or the paywall) and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple Account that bought DRFT+. If it still isn't recognized, force-quit and relaunch DRFT, then email support with your Apple purchase receipt.

The app crashed or froze

Force-quit DRFT and relaunch. If it keeps happening, email support with your iOS or macOS version, DRFT version, and what you were doing when it crashed. Crash reports help diagnose the issue quickly.

6. Purchases & refunds

No account needed. DRFT does not require sign-up, login, or any account creation. Your data stays on your device.

DRFT+ is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription to manage and nothing to cancel. It's tied to your Apple Account, so Restore Purchases brings it back on a new device or after a reinstall.

Already bought DRFT+? You own it. The price of DRFT+ changes from time to time, but a one-time purchase is charged once — a new price applies only to new purchases, and DRFT+ never leaves an Apple Account that already bought it. If it isn't showing up, use Restore Purchases.

Have an offer code? Tap Redeem Code on the paywall (iPhone or Mac). It opens Apple's redemption sheet; once Apple accepts the code, DRFT+ unlocks on the spot, and Restore Purchases brings it to your other devices.

Legacy DRFT Pro subscribers: the old monthly and yearly plans are retired, no longer sold, and no longer unlock anything from version 2.0 on — an Apple Account that still owns one is on the Free tier until it buys DRFT+. If yours is still active, cancel it so it does not renew: Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions on iPhone, or System Settings → Apple Account → Media & Purchases → Manage on Mac.

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com . Bryan can't directly issue refunds, but if you have a billing issue, email support and we'll help you sort it out with Apple.

7. Privacy & data

DRFT processes all audio on-device using Apple's speech recognition framework. Audio is never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. AI summaries are generated on-device by Apple Intelligence, so transcript text doesn't leave your device either. What's saved is the wake word, the timestamp, the short transcript window around the detection, and the summary — on your device, and in your own private iCloud database if you have DRFT+.

8. Deleting your data

You can delete everything at any time by opening the app and going to Settings → RESET ALL DATA. This wipes all saved moments, wake words, profiles, and preferences from your device, clears the name stored in iCloud Key-Value Storage, and removes the DRFT+ iCloud zone when sync is active. Your DRFT+ purchase is unaffected.

To delete individual moments, open History, tap Edit, select the moments you want gone, and tap Delete. Deleting the app entirely removes all local data immediately.
